Royals dominate Falcons

The Royals won 89-66.

Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ) and Nate Blackburn (Burlington, N.C., Graham) paced the Royals with 19 points apiece tonight in Queens University of Charlotte's commanding 89-66 win over Pfeiffer University in Merner Gymnasium. Queens (17-7) remains the top team in the East with a 12-1 league record, while the Falcons (11-12) drop to 5-8 in Conference Carolinas.

Bailey went 8-for-9 from the floor and also grabbed eight rebounds, while Blackburn shot 5-for-7 from three-point range. Brent Evans (Beaufort, S.C., Battery Creek) contributed 15 points, and Sean Eads (Greenville, S.C., Eastside) collected 12 points while dishing out six assists and grabbing four rebounds.

Danny Smith and KC Anuna led the Falcons with 17 and 16 points, respectively. They each grabbed five rebounds. Reggie Hollinger scored 11 points.

The Royals had a great game offensively this evening knocking down a season-high 13 three-pointers; seven of which came in the second half when Queens shot 77.3-percent from the floor.

Pfeiffer's lone bright spots of the night came within the first 2:16 as Anuna and Smith raced the Falcons out to a 7-0 start. A three-point play by Sam Johnson (Leicester, N.C., Asheville Christian) 55-seconds later would completely turn the night around for the visitors.

Evans would put Queens up five, 15-10, with 13:20 before the half in front of a three ball from David Cheek (Graham, N.C., Graham). Cheek started an 11-0 run that was capped off by a Blackburn three giving the Royals a 28-14 lead with 7:46 on the clock. After Evans put the Royals up by as much as 15 in the first half, a three from the Falcons' Daniel Kuhl would slice the lead down to a dozen at the break, 44-32.

Pfeiffer would show signs of life early in the second as a triple from Anuna got the Falcons to within five at 44-39 just 2:16 in. Again, Queens would bolt out on another massive run, this one a 23-6 spurt that would send the Royals up 22 coming up on the halfway point of the second. Pfeiffer would try and stay close with a three by Smith with 6:16 remaining, but the Royals' hot hands couldn't miss. Joshua Twitty (Rutherfordton, N.C., Polk County) gave Queens its largest lead of the game with a three-pointer putting the Royals up 25 with 1:07 to play.

Queens out-rebounded Pfeiffer 29-19, and handed out 11 more assists than the Falcons, 21-10.

The Royals will return home on Saturday to face Lees-McRae College for Homecoming. Game time is set for 4 pm.
