Royals topple Lees-McRae on Senior Day

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team hosted the Bobcats of Lees-McRae in the Royals' regular season finale. Before the game the Royals recognized their seniors for their accomplishments both on and off the court. Using the momentum of the ceremony the Royals jumped on the Bobcats from the first serve, and eventually took the match 3-0.
 
In the first set the Royals jumped to the 3-0 lead with the strong serving of Alexa Sparrell (Winter Park, Fla., Winter Park)  and Queens continued to hold the lead throughout the match. The Royals potent offense was showcased throughout the set, and Queens ended it with a 25-20 win on a team hitting percentage of .500
 
In the second set the Royals once again jumped to a huge lead, with Lindsey Everhart (Cincinnati, Ohio, McNicholas) strong serving taking the Royals to a 6-0 lead. The Royals continued to add on to the lead with Tori Hernandez (Gainesville, Fla., Gainesvillle) picking up four kills, and Queens eventually took the set 25-17.
 
The Royals entered the third set following the recognition of Jocelyn Kellinger (Roanoke, Va., Cave Spring) 1,000 career dig, and immediately picked up where they left off. The offense was once again on display as the Royals hit .355 behind the multiple kills of Anna Gibbs (Hickory, N.C., Hickory,Keri Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Lake Mary),  and Lindsey Everhart (Cincinnati, Ohio, McNicholas).  Behind these strong offensive efforts Queens finished off the Bobcats 25-17, and secured the number one seed in the Conference Carolinas playoffs.
 
Offensively Gibbs led the Royals with 14 and a sensational .591 percentage. Hernandez added 8 kills, and Taylor Riley (Lynchburg, Va., E.C. Glass) picked up 38 assists. Defensively Riley also led the Royals with 14 digs, and Brittney Barren (Ham Lake, Minn., Blaine) added ten.
 
The Royals finish their regular season with a 20-11 overall record, and 13-2 record and first place finish in Conference Carolinas. The Royals open their postseason when they host the Bobcats again this Saturday at 2 p.m.
