JACKSONVILLE, FLA. — Queens University of Charlotte volleyball closed the regular season in commanding fashion this past week—and the ASUN Conference took notice. Outside hitter Elizabeth Layson has been named ASUN Freshman of the Week, while libero Tilley Collins earned ASUN Defensive Player of the Week, giving the Royals a piece of the league's weekly honors following back-to-back victories over West Georgia and Lipscomb.
Outside hitter Elizabeth Layson delivered a standout offensive performance to help Queens close the regular season on a two-match win streak. The freshman was the most productive attacker on the court across both matches, finishing the week with 27 kills, averaging 3.86 kills per set, and hitting an impressive .316 on 57 total attempts.
Layson opened the week with a dominant showing in Queens' 3–0 sweep at West Georgia, setting the tone for the Royals' strong finish. She followed with a match-high effort in the team's 3–1 win over Lipscomb, delivering several momentum-shifting swings as Queens rebounded after dropping the opening set.
In addition to leading all players in kills and kills per set, Layson added five block assists and totaled 29.5 points through her attacking and blocking presence. Her efficiency helped the Royals out-hit their opponents .286 to .146 across the two matches.
Libero Tilley Collins anchored the Royals' backcourt in both victories, turning in a steady and high-impact defensive performance to close out the regular season. Collins recorded 40 digs across the two matches, averaging 5.71 digs per set—the highest mark of any player on the court.
She was equally reliable in serve-receive, committing only two reception errors despite managing a heavy workload. In Queens' sweep at West Georgia, Collins kept the Royals in system throughout, helping hold the Wolves in check offensively in all three sets. She then followed with another standout performance in the 3–1 victory over Lipscomb, leading the floor defensively as Queens regained control after the opening frame.
