Box Score DUE WEST, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team hit the road today to take on Erskine College, who received votes in the NABC/Division II rankings released this morning. The Royals were able to come out on top with a 72-62 win improving their record to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas. The Flying Fleet fall to 3-1 after picking up their first loss of the season.
Junior forward
Brent Evans (Beaufort, S.C., Battery Creek) had a spectacular night pouring in 30 points on 14-of-19 shooting, while also snatching down 11 boards to record his second double-double in a row. Senior forward
Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) added 15 points and collected eight rebounds. Senior guard
Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt) notched nine points, seven rebounds and three assists, while freshman guard
Joby Glymph (Lexington, S.C., Lexington) added eight points.
The Royals were able to get ahead early in the game taking advantage with their play inside as Evans and Stabler teamed up to score all but three of Queens' 30 first half points. They would head into the break with a nine point lead.
Queens would stretch its lead out to 13, 36-23, early in the second on a bucket from Stabler, but the Flying Fleet hung around chipping away at the Royals' lead. Erskine would cut their deficit to two, 50-48, with 9:04 on the clock, but Queens would respond stringing together a number of short runs to extend their advantage to 10, and secure the victory.
Corey Sorrell led Erskine with 21 points, while Roderick Perkins and Mika Gabbard scored 15 and 14 points respectively.
The Royals will compete again on Saturday when they travel to take on the Tornado of King College at 7:30 p.m
