Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Belmont Abbey College this evening ending their win streak. The Royals are now 6-3-1 in league play, while the Crusaders improve to 8-2.
In the first half, the Royals played aggressive putting some great balls on frame. However, Belmont Abbey's keeper, Hannah Kohls, broke up the scoring opportunities. A shot from junior forward
Brooke Foil (Knightdale, N.C., Knightdale) seemed to be heading into the goal for a Queens 1-0 lead, but it met the post and the game remained tied into the break.
After a scoreless first half, the Crusaders put the ball in the net in the 52
nd minute when Cassidy Coutinho met a cross from Alana Ryczek on the far side of the field, heading it into the back of the net. The Royals responded with two shots following Belmont Abbey's goal, but were unable to score as one went wide and one hit the post. The Crusaders were able to hold the Royals off the remainder of the half as they took the 1-0 win ending Queens' win streak.
Queens was outshot 12-5 in the match. Keeper
Kelsey Seretis (Norfolk, Va., Maury) finished the night with six saves.
Before tonight's game seniors
Megan Sload (Conestoga, Pa., Penn Manor) and
Toressa Young (Greenville, N.Y., Greenville) were recognized for their careers as Royals.
The Royals will travel to play Erskine College on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in their final regular season game of the year.
