Box Score GAFFNEY S.C. – Limestone College and the Royals last met in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Division II Tournament where the Queens University of Charlotte defeated the Saints 70-67 after putting together a 19-6 run in the final minutes. Fast forward to tonight's game at Timken Center against the Saints, and one would believe they had déjà vu as the Royals more than doubled Limestone's points in the final 11-minutes and 15-seconds of play to come back from 14 down and win 62-59.
Queens (8-5) remains undefeated in conference play at 3-0, while Limestone (7-9, 0-4) is still in search of its first league win after falling tonight.
Senior guard
Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ) scored a runner to begin Queens' run. Junior forward
Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) soon followed with a bucket of his own before coming up with a huge block on the defensive end. At that point, with the Royals down 47-37,
Sean Eads (Greenville, S.C., Eastside) capped a 9-0 Queens run with five straight points.
Limestone's Josh Corry would put the Saints back up by eight with a three ball on the very next play, but the Royals kept pushing. Queens found itself down by one point, 51-50, after knocking down seven points in a row from the foul line. Stabler put the Royals ahead for the first time in the game, 56-55, with 1:51 to play icing two shots from the line after back-to-back buckets from Bailey. His free-throws were followed by two more from Eads making the score 58-55 with a minute left in regulation.
With time ticking away, the Saints were forced to resort to desperation fouls sending Queens to the charity stripe. The Royals were able to connect on 6-8 shots from the line to clinch the victory.
The first half displayed both teams struggling offensively from the floor. The Royals shot 20-percent, while Limestone shot 25-percent. The Saints controlled the lead at the half, 24-13.
Queens improved greatly in the second shooting 56.5-percent from the floor. The Royals also outscored Limestone 24-14 in the paint. Queens' reserves scored 30 points in tonight's game compared the Limestone's contributing 15.
Stabler recorded a double-double in tonight's win with 10 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. He also notched four blocks. Bailey led the Royals in points with 18, while Eads added 16.
Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt) chipped in with 10 points.
Corry led the Saints with a game-high 23 points after knocking down seven threes. Charles Blue turned in a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Nick Debnam led all with seven assists.
Queens will play host to Pfeiffer University on Wednesday, December 11 at 7:30 p.m. The game will take place at the Grady Cole Center.
