Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte remains undefeated in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action at 4-0 after rolling to an 80-65 win over Pfeiffer University this evening at the Grady Cole Center. The win pushes Queens' overall record to 9-5, while the Falcons drop to 8-6, 2-2.
The Royals' bench showed up huge tonight outscoring Pfeiffer's 33-17. Queens completed the game with 44.6-percent shooting, while holding the Falcons to just 31.7-percent.
The game was close through the first four minutes until
Preston Newlin (Graham, N.C., Graham) drained a three-pointer stretching Queens' lead out to six, 12-6. A three-ball from
Nate Blackburn (Burlington, N.C., Graham) followed giving the Royals even more breathing room, but it was short lived as the Falcons shot their way back in the game getting to within four points after a three-point basket scored by Danny Smith. Queens remained steady in their play knocking down more shots from deep to go up by as much as 11. At the half, the Royals held a 10 point lead.
The Royals wasted no time in the second adding to their lead with a layup from
Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ). The Falcons didn't make it easy for Queens as they closed the gap to six, 51-45, but a three-point play from Bailey gave the momentum back to Queens as they increased their lead to 14 with 10:25 to play. Queens didn't stop there though as a three-pointer from
Sean Eads (Greenville, S.C., Eastside) and free-throws pushed the Royals' lead out to 18. The Falcons were in too deep of a hole to come back as Queens took the 15-point win.
Bailey led Queens' offense with 25 points. He also snatched down eight rebounds.
Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) recorded 11 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season in a row. Eads also finished with 11, while
Brent Evans (Beaufort, S.C., Battery Creek) chipped in eight.
Reggie Hollinger led Pfeiffer with 24 points and seven rebounds. Smith added 10.
The Royals will continue conference play on Saturday against North Greenville University at the Grady Cole Center at 4 p.m.
