CHARLOTTE, N.C.- It was a match-up of unbeatens. Limestone came into Queens courts with a Conference Carolinas record of 7-0, the same as the Royals and someone would walk away empty handed. It all came down to one final match and the Royals'
Gustavo Munhoz (Santos, Brazil, COC Universitario) won it all for the home team. Queens claims it's first-ever Conference Carolinas Championship with the win and remain a perfect 8-0 on the season.
Queens won the first flight of doubles, but dropped the second and third, giving Limestone a 2-1 advantage.
It was tied at four all and it came down to Munhoz and Limestone's Abraham Lascari Diaz in the fifth flight. Lascari Diaz won the first set, but Munhoz battled back to win the next two 6-2, 6-1 to give Queens the advantage.
Of the six singles flights, half took three sets to determine a winner.
The Royals won the singles match-ups at the first flight, the fourth, fifth and sixth. Limestone took two and three.
For the women, it was a sound victory. The Royals won 8-1, only dropping the second flight in singles play. Five of the eight wins were picked up without letting Limestone get on the scoreboard.
All of the teams will compete on April 15-17 at the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament in Sumter, S.C.
