Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team traveled to Winston-Salem State University this evening for a non-conference event. The Rams completed the home-and-home sweep defeating the Royals 70-60. Queens now sits at 4-3 on the year, while the Rams remain undefeated at 5-0.
Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ) led the Royals in the scoring category for the fifth time this season with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting. The senior wingman also tallied eight rebounds and three assists.
Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) was the only other Royal to reach double figure scoring with 11 points.
The Rams also had two players reach double-digit scoring with LaMar Monger notching 19 and Justin Glover adding 15.
The Royals took a 3-2 lead early on a three-pointer scored by
Sean Eads (Greenville, S.C., Eastside). Queens held on to their lead through the first not getting more than five points ahead of the Rams. A basket by Stabler put the Queens up 15-10 with 9:33 on the clock before the Rams went on a 6-to-1 spurt tying the game at 16-16 and eventually taking the lead. Stabler delivered back-to-back ferocious dunks to tie the contest up on two more occasions, but a free-throw by Winston-Salem's Glover returned the lead to the home team which they stretched out to five before the break, 30-25.
The Royals shot 50-percent from the floor in the first half, but struggled at the free-throw line with a 30-percent outing. The Rams were just the opposite going 28.6-percent from the floor and 72.2-percent from the charity stripe.
Queens trailed by 15 points halfway through the second, 51-36. The closest the Royals would get is seven, 59-52, after Baily knocked down two free-throws. The Rams would respond building their lead back out to 14 with 11-seconds left in regulation after the Royals were forced to foul with time ticking away.
Queens will return to the court on Tuesday, December 6 at 7 p.m. They will host Davis & Elkins College for the final men's basketball game at Ovens Athletic Center.
