Women’s soccer game ends all tied up

Queens tied 1-1 with North Greenville.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Samantha Striano (Clearwater, Fla., Countryside ) netted a ball in the 47th minute tying the game up at 1-1 this evening in the Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer game with North Greenville University. That would be the final score as neither team could find the back of the net in the two overtime periods that followed regulation.

The Royals are now 3-1-1 in the league and 3-6-1 overall while the Crusaders leave the Queens Sports Complex with a record of 2-3-1 in the conference and 3-5-1 overall.

North Greenville scored first almost 17 minutes into the game. Jade Salle passed a ball up to Cara Cecil who pulled Queens' keeper, Kelsey Seretis (Norfolk, Va., Maury), out of the net for the tap in and the early lead.

Little action followed as Queens outshot the Crusaders 4-to-1 before the break.

The Royals found their chance to respond in the second when Hope Hartman (Buies Creek, N.C., Homeschool) and Striano found themselves in the box with a give-and-go opportunity. Striano passed a ball to Hartman and cut to the goal where Hartman fed the ball back to her which she blasted into the net.

The first overtime period saw no shots forcing the second. Queens outshot the Crusaders 2-to-1 in the final period before the horn sounded with the 1-1 draw.

Seretis played the entire 110 minutes in goal for Queens tallying three stops. Regina Ibanga of North Greenville also covered all 110 minutes in goal notching five saves.

Queens has a break until Thursday when they play host to Erskine College in a game slated to begin at 5 p.m.
