CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team completed a home-and-home sweep with the Bulldogs of Barton College this evening defeating the visitors 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-22). The sweep is the eighth of the season for the Royals (15-7) as they improve to a third best 9-2 in the league. The Bulldogs (8-12) fall to 4-8 in conference action.
The Royals are still at the top of the East Division.
Setters
Avery Moore (Arlington, Texas, Lamar) and
Taylor Riley (Lynchburg, Va., E.C. Glass) split time this evening each recording double-doubles. Moore tallied 17 assists and 11 digs, while Riley notched 14 assists and 11 digs.
Ashley Winters (Fredericktown, Ohio, Highland) led the attack collecting a season-high 12 kills on a .500 hitting percentage.
Lindsey Everhart (Cincinnati, Ohio, McNicholls) chipped in putting down nine balls.
Anna Gibbs (Hickory, N.C., Hickory) and
Brittany Harvey (Matthews, N.C., Sun Valley ) each totaled six blocks on defense.
Barton's attack was led by Kati Wood who tallied 10 kills. Meka Hoover dished out a game-high 18 assists. Leading all players in digs was Amanda Grandy, while Melissa Cochran led all with seven blocks.
The Royals hit .361 in the first set to pick up the 11 point win. Both teams struggled on the attack in the final two sets, but the Royals' strong presence at the net proved to be the game changer as Queens went on the win the final two sets as well.
Queens will next face Mount Olive College at home on Tuesday, October 25 at 6:30 pm.
