WINGATE, N.C.- The Royals of Queens University of Charlotte fell to the Bulldogs of Wingate University in a nonconference women's soccer game 2-0 at the Wingate University Soccer Complex. Queens drops to 0-3 overall, while the Bulldogs improve to 1-1 overall on the season.
The Bulldogs scored their two goals in the first six minutes of play. Senior forward Jenni Barbett (Severna, Md.) netted her first goal of the season 2:55 into the first half. Wingate added to their lead less than three minutes later, when senior defender Samantha Baldwin (Stallings, N.C.) found senior midfielder Julie Zielinski (Erie, Pa.), who netted her first goal of the year to make it 2-0.
Queens was outshot 14 to two in the game. The Bulldogs were whistled for 19 fouls to Queens' nine. Michelle Landry (Atlanta, Ga., Druid Hills ) tallied five saves.
The Royals return to action on Saturday as they open up Conference Carolinas play against St. Andrews Presbyterian College at 5:00 pm at the Queens Sports Complex.
