CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team held host Lees-McRae to just 16 first half points in the Conference Carolinas contest Monday evening in Banner Elk, N.C. The Royals went on to win 68-46 and improve to 14-11 overall and 13-7 in league play. The Bobcats fall to 4-20 overall and 4-16 in conference action.
Ashley McGuirt (Indian Trail, N.C., Providence Day) and
Marissa Hudley (Charlotte, N.C., Harding University ) each scored the game-high 18 points in the win. McGuirt earned most of hers from three pointers, hitting 5-12, while Hudley was 9-16 from the floor.
From the free throw line Queens was on fire. In the first half the Royals missed just two freebies, 11-13, and hit all six attempts in the second half to finish shooting 89.5%.
Around the glass Queens out rebounded the Bobcats by 10, six offensively and four defensively.
Lees-McRae was led by Collette Montgomery with 13 points.
Queens hosts Mount Olive on Wed., Feb. 24 at 5:30pm and wraps up the regular season on Feb. 27 in Due West, S.C., against Erskine at 2pm.
