Men’s tennis wins season opener

Queens defeated the Bears 8-1.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  – The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team continued their success from the fall and downed Lenoir-Rhyne University 8-1 in their season opener. The match was played at Freedom Park yesterday afternoon because of weather conditions. The Royals improve to 5-0 with the win.

In singles play, Christiaan Lee-Daigle (Tecumseh, Ontario, L'Essor Secondary School) held down the number one spot defeating Brian Reid of the Bears in two games (6-1, 6-2). Joshua Bloch (Johannesburg, South Africa, King David) didn't let his competition score a single point winning both of his games 6-0. Lenoir-Rhyne's only point of the match came at the sixth spot when David Jackson defeated Bryce Boothby (Sudbury, Mass., Pendleton) of the Royals (7-5, 6-4).

The Royals swept the Bears in doubles winning all three games. Bloch and Gustavo Munhoz (Santos, Brazil, COC Universitario) began the streak at the number one spot downing the competition 8-4. Lee-Daigle and Raahil Dhruva (London, England, Parmiter's) paired up at the two spot winning 8-4 as well. Alex McKinzie (Austin, Tex., Lake Travis) and Edwin Ramirez (Guayquil, Ecquador, San Jose la Salle) won the final doubles game 8-3.

The Royals are back in action Friday, February 19, 2010 at Anderson University in Anderson, S.C. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
