Daniel Bailey's (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ) last-second block secured a 57-56 victory over Tusculum College (4-7) Saturday afternoon at Ovens Athletic Center, extending Queens' (4-4) win streak to three games going into the holiday break.
Senior
Reggie Hopkins (Gastonia, N.C., Ashbrook) led the Royals (4-4) with 19 points in the back-and-forth contest that never seen either team lead by double digits.
Trailing by one going into halftime, the Royals built a game-high seven-point cushion on a Hopkins jumper with 4:38 remaining in regulation.
Struggling to score down the stretch, the Royals went six-for-seven from the stripe in the final 1:45 to seal the victory.
Outrebounded 20-33, the Royals were able counter the disparity with stealthy defense -- swiping 12 steals to go along with seven blocks.
Sam Johnson (Leicester, N.C., Asheville Christian) accounted for five of the team's blocks in just 14 minutes on the court.
Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) produced another efficient night, scoring eight points on four-of-six shooting while pulling in a game-high seven rebounds and one block.
The Royals return to action Thursday, December 30 at 7:30 pm when they host
Fayetteville State University (4-3).
