CHARLOTTE, N.C.-   Queens University of Charlotte is pleased to announce that the first ever Ballin' on Burwell event kicking off the men's and women's 2010-2011 basketball seasons was a huge success. Many fans, friends, family members, faculty, staff, and students turned out on Friday, October 22nd for the action packed event.

All hands involved (The Department of Athletics, Student Life, Student Government Association, and the Sports Marketing Association) worked hard to bring the Queens community together for what was an evening full of entertainment for everyone in attendance.

The evening's court activities began with a three-on-three tournament and a series of Knock Out games hosted by intramurals where many prizes were given out to winners. The games were followed by a presentation by the Queens Dance Club.

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was in attendance heading a cotton candy booth. There were also face painting and tie dye booths.

Highlights of the evening included Head Men's Basketball Coach Wes Long's Tawkin' Trash segment, the introduction of the cheerleaders and the men's and women's basketball teams, and the dunk contest. Coach Long shared with the crowd a few chants and cheers to keep the crowd engaged at games which would in turn provide a spirited event for the student-athletes.

The dunk contest displayed the high flying talents of many members of the men's basketball team. One person stepped away the 2010 Slam Dunk Contest Champion and that was sophomore Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt).

The Royals have a few more days of practice before jumping in to the swing of things. The men will tip off their season in an exhibition game at UNC-Charlotte on November 2nd in a game slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. The women will get started at Wake Forest on November 10th in an exhibition game with a start time of 7:00 p.m.
