CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens men's basketball used three-pointers and a strong second half to defeat Coker College 72-56 in Hartsville, S.C. The win gives Royals .500 record of 5-5 overall 2-2 in Conference Carolinas action while Coker falls to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Queens held just a one point advantage in the first half 26-25, but that all changed in the second half. The Royals were 7-20 from the floor in the first half, with four three-pointers, and in the second they improved to 15-29 from the floor with six three's.
Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ) again was hot from long range hitting all three attempts. In the game against Barton just two nights before Bailey connected on four of five attempts for a total of 35 points. Against Coker he finished with 18 points, the Queens high. Around the boards Bailey pulled down eight rebounds, also the team high. As a team Queens had 28 rebounds.
Reggie Hopkins (Gastonia, N.C., Ashbrook) also hit from downtown. Hopkins connected on two of three tries and ended the game with 14 points.
Coker's Mason Ambler led all scorers with 21 points. He also had nearly half of the team's rebounds with 14. Coker totaled 30 rebounds.
Queens hosts Mars Hill College on Monday, Jan. 11 at 7:30pm. The game is a make-up from December.
