Royals Men's Tennis Blanks Catawba

Queens won 9-0.

CHARLOTTE, N,C,- Queens University of Charlotte defeated Catawba College yesterday in a men's tennis match by a score of 9-0. The Royals improve to 6-9 overall on the season while the Indians drop to 9-7.

The Royals defeated the Indians in all spots in their single matches. Jonathan O'Rourke (Auckland, New Zealand, Kings College), Edwin Ramirez (Guayquil, Ecquador, San Jose la Salle), and Patricio Calderon (Newmarket, Ontario, Sacred Heart) had to work hard to break ties in their matches in order to come out with victories. O'Rourke defeated Matt King of the Indians in four sets with scores of 6-1, 6-7, 7-4, and 10-6. Thomas Mitchell lossed to Ramirez in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, and 10-3. Calderon fought with Tom McCormack in the fifth spot with scores of 5-7, 6-1, and 10-5.

Queens went 3-0 in doubles play against Catawba. Christiaan Lee-Daigle (Tecumseh, Ontario, L'Essor Secondary School) and O'rourke blanked Sean Soltan and Uri Yarkoni 8-0 in the number one spot. The other two doubles teams followed their lead winning 8-6 in both spots.

The Royals are back in action against UNC-Charlotte on April 4.
