Tennis Opens Spring Season with Two Losses

Queens falls to No. 15 Anderson and No. 32 Mount Olive

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The No. 36 Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team opened the spring season with two losses to nationally ranked programs. The Royals faced No. 15 Anderson University at Anderson on Friday, Feb. 13, falling 8-1, and hosted No. 32 Mount Olive College on Sunday and dropping the home-opener 7-2.

Against Anderson, Queens freshman Christiaan Lee-Daigle (Tecumseh, Ontario, L'Essor Secondary School) came from behind to defeat the No. 7 player in the country, Philip Pakebusch 2-6, 7-5 (10-8).

In the second position Jonathan O'Rourke (Auckland, New Zealand, Kings College) was able to steal some points away from Stephane Murray, but wasn't able to take a set. O'Rourke fell 6-3, 6-4, respectively.

Lee-Daigle and O'Rourke paired up in doubles and took on the No. 8 team, Pakebusch and Renato Assuncao. The Royals players held their own against the stiff competition and in the end fell 8-5.

In the home-opener on Sunday Queens did not get a reprieve against high level opponents.  The Royal hosted No. 32 Mount Olive College.

Lee-Daigle stood out again in singles play, dominating Daniel Mosteanu 6-0, 6-0. In doubles action Lee-Daigle and O'Rourke joined up again, and this time were able to prevail 8-3.
