Barton Slips Past Queens 104-92

Royals host Limestone on Saturday at 7:30pm

CHARLOTTE, N.C- After holding a four-point lead at the half, Queens fell to visiting Conference Carolinas opponent Barton College 104-92. The game featured 12 lead changes and three ties.

Queens (2-8 overall/1-2 CC) battled for every point early in the first half and was able to open up a seven point margin with 3:19 left on the clock. The Bulldogs (6-3 overall/3-0 CC) cut three off and went into the half trailing 45-41.

The Royals were able to capitalize on second chances scoring eight second chance points while Barton did not register any. Additionally, Queens out rebounded the Bulldogs 21-11.

A little over two minutes ticked off the clock before a basket was scored in the second half. Barton's Greg Mammel hit a three-pointer to make it 45-44, but Joshua Twitty (Rutherfordton, N.C., Polk County) answered back on the next Royals possession with a three-pointer of his own at the17:49 mark . The next two minutes would feature four lead changes with Barton taking the lead and holding on to it until 12:55 when the two teams exchanged the lead four more times. Again Barton came away with the advantage.

From there the Bulldogs steadily extended the margin from one point to 17 with 2:44 left.

Queens battled back with two three-point buckets from Reggie Hopkins (Gastonia, N.C., Ashbrook) and one from Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ). The Royals came within five, but could not close on the visitors. Barton won 104-92.

Queens was led by Patrick Fox (Eden, N.C. , Morehead) with 29 points, 12 from three-point baskets, and Hopkins with 15. Bailey recorded the game-high nine rebounds.

Barton's Bobby Buffaloe scored 25, Aaron Suggs had 18 and Errol Frials and David King each had 17. King also had nine rebounds.

Queens hosts Limestone College on Saturday at 7:30pm and Barton hosts Pfeiffer on Jan. 8.
