BANNER ELK, N.C.- The Royals walked into the Lees-McRae gym ready to get a win, and that they did. Queens University of Charlotte rolled over the Bobcats 80-57 in Conference Carolinas action.
The Royals (8-8 overall/7-4 CC) took the lead on the first basket and never relinquished it to Lees-McRae (5-12 overall/3-9).
The Bobcats came close to taking the lead back on more than one occasion as they came within one. At the 10:17 mark Erin Goldner (Matthews, N.C., Piedmont) iced the Bobcats attempt to take over with her only three of the night. Just three minutes later Lees-McRae's Chahkia Harrison scored a three of her own, again putting the Bobcats in pouncing distance. Shakaria Hamlin (Hartsville, S.C., Hartsville) quashed the last close call and put Queens up 24-20. At the half, Queens was up 39-30.
In the second 20 the Royals continued to hit baskets and built at 25 point lead with a little over one minute left to play.
When the buzzer sounded the Royals won 80-57.
Marissa Hudley (Charlotte, N.C., Harding University ) led all scorers with 20 points. Hamlin and Goldner scored 18 and 17 respectively.
Queens will play one more game on the road in Hartsville, S.C. against Coker before hosting Anderson University on Jan. 31.
