Queens Stumbles Against Pfeiffer

Royals fall 98-84

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The visiting Pfeiffer Falcons edged the Queens University of Charlotte Royals 98-84 in a Conference Carolinas contest at the Grady Cole Center Saturday evening. 
 
The men's basketball coaching staff, led by Wes Long, all went without shoes tonight to show support for Samaritan's Feet. The organization, locally based, has a goal to provide shoes to 10 million children in 10 years. At the gate, Queens collected new shoes and cash donations for Samaritan's Feet. The Royals (2-11/1-5 CC0 started the game strong with two three-pointers back to back from Sean Eads (Greenville, S.C., Eastside) and Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ) and a bucket from Patrick Fox (Eden, N.C. , Morehead)to give Queens a 10-8. The Falcons returned the points and then some going on a 16-0 run, 25-10.
 
Queens battled back to bring the score within four with 2:54 left in the half, but two long range shots made by James Crowler and a pair of free throws by Robert McGriff put the Falcons back on top by 13, 54-41, at the end of the half.
 
In the second half again Queens found themselves in a hole early on, but again were able to pull back within reach of Pfeiffer. Fox hit his first of two threes to set the score at 65-56 with 11:41 to play.
 
Pfeiffer pulled away again and again Queens fought back. Bailey scored a bucket after stealing the ball from McGriff to make the score 76-68 and 6:46 left on the clock.
 
It looked like the Royals were reeling the Falcons in and were ready to pounce as Eads hit his fourth three of the game to cut the lead down to seven. However, Pfeiffer didn't see it that way. The Falcons pulled away with the game and took home the win, 98-84.
 
Eads was a perfect 4-4 from behind the arc, scoring 18 points. Bailey led the team with 22. Fox contributed 13, 2-3 in three point attempts, and Charles Burgess (Spartanburg, S.C., Boiling Springs) scored 11.
 
Crowler scored the game-high 25 with Davon Gilliard totaling 15 and Chris Donald contributing 11.
 
Queens will travel to Mount Olive on Monday for a 7:30pm game.
