CHARLOTTE, N.C.- In the first road game of 2009 for the Royals, Anderson University had the home court advantage in the Conference Carolinas contest. The Trojans defeated Queens University of Charlotte 82-74 in Anderson, S.C., Wednesday night.
The Royals (2-10 overall/1-4CC) trailed by eight at the end of the first half, 36-28. Queens bounced back and posted 46 points in the second half, but so did Anderson (6-7 overall/4-2 CC).
Turnovers played a big part in the game. Queens gave up the ball 18 times and Anderson was able to score 22 points on the give-aways. The Trojans turned the ball over 11 times and the Royals converted the turnovers into 10 points.
The Royals were led by Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ) with 21 points and 18 rebounds. Sean Eads (Greenville, S.C., Eastside) added 13 points, and Patrick Fox (Eden, N.C. , Morehead)chipped in 11 for the Royals. Eads also had seven of Queens' 13 assists and four the Royals' eight steals.
Kevis Cornwell scored 20 for the Trojans.
Queens shot 50 percent in the second half and 45 percent for the game, while Anderson shot 47 percent in the first half and 43 percent for the game.
The Royals will play their first of three home contests at the Grady Cole Center this Saturday against Pfeiffer University. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm. The Royals will be supporting Samaritan's Feet during the night and asks fans to bring a new pair of shoes to the game for donation.
