Lenoir-Rhyne Defeats Queens 83-64

The Royals host Fayetteville State University on Dec. 19

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- In the second meeting of the season, Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball fell to Lenoir-Rhyne University 83-64. In the first meeting in Charlotte, Queens fell 79-62.

Queens (1-6 overall; 1-1 Conference Carolinas) struggled to hit baskets from the floor, shooting 31.7%, which caused the Royals to trail the entire game.

In the first half of play the host Bears (4-3 overall/0-1 SAC) took opened up a 19 point lead, 25-6, with 10:59 left on the clock. On the next play, Patrick Fox (Eden, N.C. , Morehead) started an 8-0 run by the Royals with a three-point bucket.

Queens chipped away at the Lenoir-Rhyne lead bringing them within four points and 90 seconds to play. At the break, Lenoir-Rhyne led 36-28.

The second half of play unfolded similar to the first, but Queens was able to slow the Bears down and come within three points five minutes into the half. From there, the Bears pulled away, taking advantage of missed shots by Queens.

The Bears held as many as 20 points over the Royals and finished the contest with a 19 point lead, 83-64.

Reggie Hopkins (Gastonia, N.C., Ashbrook) led the Royals with 16 points while Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ) scored 15. Leading the team around the glass was Kevin Fowler (Mexico, N.Y. , Mexico Academy) with 10 boards.

Elliot McDowell scored the game-high 20 points. D.J. Blackman recorded the game's only double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Queens will rest until Dec. 19 when they host Fayetteville State University at 7pm.
