Royals Volleyball Overpowers Limestone

Queens finishes strong with a 3-1 Victory

Charlotte, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte's Royals hosted Limestone College this evening, and battled out a 3-1 victory over the Saints.  This win marks the fifth conference game win of the season for Queens, once again surpassing their number of season wins in the past three years. The Royals record is now 5-21 overall and 5-12 in Conference Carolinas.

Queens clearly had their  momentum going, and the home court advantage on their side as the Royals easily captured wins in the first two sets with scores of 25-19 and 25-21.

The cohesive energy was evident and barring a close loss in the third set, the Royals dominated the competition. The Saints narrowly edged Queens out for a victory in the third set, 26-24,  but Queens came back in the fourth set to clinch the win with a score of 25-21.

The Royals offense was strong,  with 37 total team kills, led by senior Keatin McKenzie (Coral Springs, Fla., Cardinal Gibbons ) who had ten kills for the evening and 31 attacks.  Senior powerhouse Veronica Arenander (Cincinnati, Ohio, Walnut Hill ) dominated the total attacks with 41 for the night.  Sophmore Tanisha Lea had a total of 15 attacks for the night, and five kills, one of which clinched the second set voctory of 25-21 for Queens.

Defensively,  Tanisha Lea led the team in blocks, totaling  seven for the evening, followed by Brittany Harvey (Matthews, N.C., Sun Valley ), Arenander, and Natalie Weiner (Greensboro, N.C., Page ), who each had four. Tamalea Pierce (Asheboro, N.C., SW Randolph ) and Arenander each had 3 digs for the night rounding off the defensive aspect of Queens play successfully.

Queens dominated the majority of play, though Limestone College put up a great fight, and narrowly defeated Queens in the third set 26-24. Limestone's Melissa Thomas totaled 17 kills for the night, many of which were part of Limestone's third set  win.  Brooke England had 17 digs for the night, totally more than any other player on the court this evening. England also secured two serving aces as did Danielle Seibert. Limestone put up a good effort, but the momentum felt by the Royals carried them with ease through out the match. The fourth set proved to be successful for Queens as blocks by Lea, kills by Mckenzie, Weiner, and Harvey all aided in the capture of the win.

Queens plays Anderson University next on October 28, at Ovens Athletic Center at 6:30pm. The home court advantage can once again work in the Royals favor, as they aim towards defeating Anderson, who beat them out earlier in the season.
