CHARLOTTE, N.C.- In nonconference action at the Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park the Royals were defeated by Covenant College by a score of 2-1. The Royals took the lead in the first half, but two second half goals put the Scots on top.
Kevin O'Donnell (Prince George, Va., Prince George ) put Queens University of Charlotte (7-6-1/3-4-1 Conference Carolinas) on the board with four minutes left in the first half. Luke Graycheck (Macon, Ga., Mount de Sales )played the crossing ball and O'Donnell knocked the ball to the upper right side of the net. The goal is O'Donnell's seventh of the year.
The two teams were even in shots, four each, during the first 45 minutes of play. Queens keeper Dan Williams (Kingwood, Tex., Kingwood) made three saves while Covenant's John Eger made two.
The visitors (7-6-2) evened the score in the 56th minute when Zach Terrell put his head on a crossing ball from Julian Allgeier.
The game-winning goal was scored Allgeier with 26 minutes left to play.
Despite not scoring in the second half Queens edged Covenant in shots 6-5. Williams and Eger each totaled four saves in the contest.
Queens travels to Due West, S.C., on Oct. 25 to face Erskine College. Including the contest with Erskine, Queens has just two contests remaining in the regular season. The last regular season game is on Nov. 1 at Mount Olive College.
