Queens Ranked No. 2 in Country by Street & Smith's

Complete Rankings

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
– The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team debuted at No. 2 in Street & Smith's Division II Preseason Top 10 poll. Queens ranked only behind the defending national champion Northwest Missouri State University. It's the second consecutive year the Royals were featured in the preseason national rankings by the publication, formerly known as the Sporting News Basketball Yearbook.

In 2017-2018, the Royals return four starters and 10 letter winners from a team that finished last season 30-4 overall, eclipsing the 30-win mark for the first time in program history, after opening the season 16-0, the best start in program history. In 2016-2017, Queens took home the South Atlantic Conference regular season and tournament championships for the first time in the school's four-year tenure in the league and hosted the NCAA Southeast Regional as the top-ranked team in the region. The Royals compiled two tournament wins and reached the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2003.

During the regular season, Queens also reached its highest national ranking in program history, peaking at No. 2 in the D2SIDA Media Poll and No. 3 in the NABC Coaches Poll.

Queens adds to its roster junior college standouts Lewis Diankulu, Shaun Willett, and DeVarte Watson, as well as freshman Solomon Smith for this season.

Street and Smith's also featured Jalin Alexander as a preseason Honorable Mention All-American. Alexander, a 6-3 senior from Newberry, South Carolina, averaged 13.4 points per game last season en route to a SAC First-Team All-Conference selection, and a Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association Second-Team All-Southeast Region selection. This is Alexander's second consecutive preseason All-America selection by Street & Smith's.

The 2017-2018 season begins on Friday, Nov. 3, with an exhibition game versus Wake Forest University at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Opening tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The regular season opens on Nov. 10 in Milledgeville, Georgia against Georgia College and State University, as part of the Bobcat Crossover Classic.

The first home game is scheduled for Nov. 15, against Clayton State University. Opening tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Levine Center.
