McKenzie Owen enters her second season with the Royals in 2017 after helping Sarah Jansen guide Queens to a South Atlantic Conference Tournament appearance for the first time in program history during the 2016-2017 campaign.
A former collegiate athlete, Owen was a four-year member of the Belmont Abbey College women’s basketball team where she was recruited by Jansen, and played one year with Jansen on the staff. In her senior season, Owen was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the Women’s Division II Bulletin Newsletter and Conference Carolinas Player of the Year. Owen averaged 20.2 points per game in 2014-2015 ranking her 13th nationally, and scored in double figures in 28 of 29 games, including crossing the 30-point threshold on two occasions.
In total for her career, Owen scored 1,527 points, grabbed 672 rebounds, was twice named a first team all-conference selection, twice named an all-region selection and five times was named Conference Carolinas Player of the Week.
Owen holds an undergraduate degree from Belmont Abbey in sport management with a minor in business management. She spent 2015-2016 at King University as a graduate assistant in the Athletic Communications Department where she partnered her MBA with a concentration in marketing.
