Fred Norchi

  • Title
    Head Men's Soccer Coach

Since the birth of the men’s soccer program in 1990, Fred Norchi has been the head coach for Queens University of Charlotte. In his 20 years of coaching the Royals, he has compiled a 240-91-22 overall record and a conference record of 119-25-10. These statistics put him in the Top 10 among NCAA Division II men’s soccer coaches.

Most recently Coach Norchi and the 2007 men's soccer team advanced to the NCAA men’s soccer tournament’s first round. The Royals were the Conference Carolinas Tournament Finalists after losing to Lees-McRae. In 2006 the team advanced to the Elite Eight Tournament after finishing the regular season as CVAC Champions and Southeast Region Champions. He has led the Royals to a total of four NCAA Tournament appearances (2006, 2004, 2002 and 1999), owns six CVAC Tournament titles, and eight regular season conference championships. Coach Norchi has coached numerous all-CVAC players, CVAC players of the year, and all-Americans throughout his tenure at Queens.

Coach Norchi’s success as a coach has been recognized by both the NCAA and the CVAC. At the completion of the 2006 season he was named NCAA Division II Southeast Region Coach of the Year receiving this award for the fifth time.  The CVAC also named Norchi CVAC Coach of the Year for the 5th year in a row, a total of six times he has received this recognition. Coach Norchi was also a finalist for the NCAA Division II men's soccer Coach of the Year in 1994. Currently, Coach Norchi is ranked 7th All-time in Division II men's soccer by winning percentage and 7th in overall victories.

A year before taking over the men’s program, Norchi pioneered the women’s soccer team. As the true founder of Royals soccer, he simultaneously coached the men’s and women’s programs for seven years. Norchi is especially proud of the fine young men and women his graduates have become when they leave Queens.

Norchi is a graduate of East Stroudsburg State University (Penn.), and his coaching career began at Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, S.C. A native of Smithtown, N.Y., Norchi graduated from Hauppage High School in New York. Now a resident of Charlotte, Coach Norchi is the proud father of his 16-year old son, Matt.
