In 2020, Matt Grantham enters his second season with Queens. Last season, the Royals posted a 24-7 record, winning 10 of their final 11 games. Queens capped the year with a fifth-straight top-25 finish in both major national polls, earning the No. 15 ranking in the final media poll and the No. 23 ranking in the final coaches' poll, after reaching the top-10 of both polls for the fifth consecutive year. The Royals claimed the No. 2 seed in the Southeast Regional of the NCAA Division II Men's basketball Championship before the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Grantham joined Queens after spending one year as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Catawba Valley Community College. In his year with CVCC, Grantham helped the team to a 22-9 overall record and the program's first-ever national ranking. The Red Hawks finished the season by tallying the most points, rebounds, and assists in a single season in program history. Additionally, one of Grantham’s recruits earned first-team all-region recognition.
Prior to his time at CVCC, Grantham spent two years as an assistant coach at North Carolina Wesleyan College where the Battling Bishops claimed a conference regular-season championship during the 2017-2018 season.
Grantham graduated from East Carolina University where he worked as a student manager with the men's basketball team. His father, Greg Grantham, is a retired hall-of-fame high school coach who co-founded the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association (NCBCA).
