CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team picked up its second win of the season this afternoon, defeating LIU 7-1 at Bessant Field. The Sharks fall to 0-7 on the year following the loss.
INSIDE THE MATCH
Queens controlled today's game from start to finish, opening with a goal from
Jaxin Frazer in the fifth minute of play. The 1-0 lead held until Queens'
Sarah Hondru and
Madelynn Witt put the Royals on top 3-0 with a pair of goals scored in the second period.
Out of the halftime break,
Maddie Just scored on a diving shot from the backside of the cage.
Amanat Dhillon followed with a goal assisted by Frazer in the 35
th minute to put Queens in front 5-0. The Sharks answered in the third, as Delfina Gonzalez scored LIU's first goal of the season in the 39
th to give the game a 5-1 score.
Queens then scored their final two of the day in the fourth period, as
Madilyn Donmoyer scored off a deflection and Frazer found the back of the cage for the second time in the match. Dhillon recorded her second assist on the play as the trio of freshmen forwards took advantage of a three-on-one fastbreak.
KEY STATS & NOTES
- Jaxin Frazer totaled a career-high two goals. She also tallied her first career assist for a career-high five points.
- Amanat Dhillon and Madelynn Witt each scored their first collegiate goals in the win. Dhillon also notched her first two assists. Transfer Madilyn Donmoyer's goal was the first of her collegiate career as well.
- Sarah Hondru's goal was the first of the season for the junior.
- Madison Destefano earned her second win of the season, tallying two saves in 30 minutes. Sabrina Balent totaled four saves in the second half.
- Queens outshot LIU 21-15, putting 13 shots on goal.
- The Royals welcomed many alumni to today's game to celebrate the program's 10 years of NCAA competition.
