Royals Open Conference Play with Win Over Kutztown

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens opened conference play with an impressive 41–21 victory over Kutztown this afternoon, overcoming a slow start to secure their first conference win of the season.

Kutztown came out firing, scoring two early tries to take a 14–0 lead. The Royals eventually settled into the match and began finding their rhythm in the Bears' half. A beautifully executed set piece saw John Steel cross the line to get the Royals on the scoreboard. Senior Gideon Wessels followed with a try immediately after the kickoff, bringing the score to 14–10. Gideon added another try just before halftime, giving the Royals a 17–14 lead at the break.

The second half was a different story. The Royals came out firing, putting the Bears under immediate pressure and keeping them pinned in their own half for much of the period. The sustained pressure finally turned into points, with Gideon Grover crossing the line again to complete his hat trick. Zach Colson added another try to extend the Royals' lead to 34–14.

The Bears managed one final try with five minutes remaining, but the Royals were not finished. Michael Addesso crossed the line with seconds left to seal the victory at 41–21.

The Royals now turn their attention to the defending national champions, St. Bonaventure, as they prepare for their next challenge on the road.

Coach Reed's Comments:
"I'm happy for the team to get their first conference win. We want to keep stacking the positives, learning from our mistakes, and continuing to improve each week."
