2026 Queens Athletics Awards: Pamela Davies Scholar Athletes of the Year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Department of Athletics is proud to announce their annual summer awards series, celebrating the outstanding accomplishments of its student-athletes during the 2025-26 season.

Award winners will be revealed every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer across the department's official social media platforms. The series continues with the Pamela Davies Scholar Athletes of the Year. 

Pamela Davies Scholar-Athletes of the Year
Presented by the Department of Athletics to a student-athlete who has attained a strong academic record and has excelled in their sport. The award is named after former University president Pamela Davies who served the institution for 17 years (2002-2019), distinguishing herself through her commitment to providing innovative and high-quality education and building community partnerships that enhance the educational experience of Queens students.
Men's Winner – Jakob Nützel, Men's Track & Field
Jakob Nützel, a native of Freystadt, Germany, enjoyed another outstanding season both academically and athletically for Queens. Maintaining an impressive 3.97 cumulative GPA, Nützel earned Academic All-ASUN honors while continuing to excel in competition. The standout thrower qualified for the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship First Rounds and captured gold in the discus throw at the ASUN Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the second consecutive year with a winning mark of 55.13 meters.

Women's Winner – Sabina Kupcova, Women's Swimming
Sabina Kupcova, from Levice, Slovakia, combined perfect academic achievement with success in the pool throughout her career at Queens. Graduating with a 4.0 cumulative GPA, Kupcova earned Academic All-ASUN recognition while continuing to compete at a high level nationally. This season, she qualified for the National Invitational Championship and was a two-time finalist at the ASUN Swimming & Diving Championships, earning championship finals appearances in both the individual medley and freestyle events.
