THE SHORT STORY
Big first inning for Gardner-Webb University leads to 11-1 run-ruled victory over Queens University at Charlotte. The Royals grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Bulldogs came back to plate six runs in the first and never looked back after that.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Hunter Huneycutt reached on an error to start the top of the first.
Grayson Childers moved him to second when he singled to left. Huneycutt later came around to score when
Anibal Rivera singled to right field to give the Royals a 1-0 lead before the inning ended.
- Gardner-Webb in the bottom half of the first, pushed six runs across on five hits, two walks, and a hit by pitch to take a 6-1 lead.
- The Bulldogs added a pair of runs in the third, a run in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to push their lead to 11-1.
- Queens only other hit came in the fourth off the bat of
Bradley Brown in the form of a single.

- Brown finished the night going 2-for-2, pacing all Queens hitters.
- Childers and Rivera each had hits of their own.
- The Royals' only walk came from pinch-hitter
