Rivera Homer Highlights Queens Battle at No. 8/11 Georgia

ATHENS, GA. — The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team battled early but No. 8/11 Georgia used a late offensive surge to pull away for a 14-3 victory on Sunday at Foley Field.

  • Georgia struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Daniel Jackson launched a two-run home run to right field to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
  • Queens answered in the second inning as Anibal Rivera connected on a two-run homer to left field that also scored Lenox Lively, tying the game at 2-2.
  • The Bulldogs regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single from Tre Phelps to make it 3-2.
  • Georgia added to its advantage in the fourth inning with back-to-back solo home runs from Kolby Branch and Brennan Hudson, extending the lead to 5-2.
  • The Bulldogs continued to build momentum in the sixth when Henry Allen hit a three-run homer to push the lead to 8-2.
  • Queens added a run in the seventh inning when Thomas Mathay reached on a fielder's choice that brought Grayson Childers home, trimming the deficit to 8-3.
  • Georgia responded with six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, highlighted by Jackson's grand slam, to secure the 14-3 final.
  • Rivera led the Royals offensively with his two-run home run, while Lively and Childers each scored a run for Queens.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Queens recorded three hits in the contest.
  • Rivera's second-inning home run accounted for the Royals' lone extra-base hit of the afternoon.
  • Jackson finished with two home runs and six RBIs for Georgia.
