THE SHORT STORY
Queens dropped the series finale Sunday afternoon, surrendering a six-run third inning in a 9-1 loss to Stetson. The Royals were limited to just two hits while early defensive miscues helped the Hatters take control.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first, Stetson capitalized on two Queens errors in the second inning to plate a pair of unearned runs.
Queens responded in the third as Lilia Alpuche came around to score on a Sage Farmer RBI double, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The Hatters answered immediately with a decisive six-run third inning. Annabella McClerren launched a solo home run before Gaby Bauer broke the game open with a grand slam, pushing the lead to 8-1.
Stetson added one more in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
Queens was held to one run on just two hits while committing two errors, while Stetson totaled nine runs on nine hits.
Sage Farmer led the Royals at the plate, going 1-for-3 with an RBI double, while Shayna Suttles added the team's only other hit with a 1-for-2 effort.
In the circle, Kooper Barnes allowed three hits and no earned runs over 2.0 innings, while Addison Kluck went 2.2 innings with four earned runs and two walks.
Stetson's offense was fueled by a six-run third inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Gaby Bauer and a home run from Annabella McClerren, who finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.
