THE SHORT STORY
Queens couldn't overcome a late surge from North Florida in the opener, falling 9-3 after the Ospreys broke the game open with four runs in the seventh inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
North Florida struck first in the opening frame and capitalized on defensive miscues in the third to extend its lead to 3-0. The Royals were held scoreless through five innings before breaking through in the sixth. Lauren Byrd launched a solo home run to left center, and Queens loaded the bases to add two more runs on a walk by Madison Cantoni and a sacrifice fly from Caylin Herring, cutting the deficit to 5-3. However, North Florida responded with a four-run seventh inning, highlighted by a pair of home runs, to put the game out of reach.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind early, Queens answered with a big third inning. Lindsay Henson delivered a two-run triple before Shayna Suttles followed with an RBI double to give the Royals a 4-2 advantage. North Florida responded quickly, tying the game in the fourth and then taking control in the fifth with three runs. The Royals added a run in the sixth on a Sage Farmer RBI triple to cut the deficit to 7-5, but the Ospreys tacked on an insurance run in the seventh and held Queens scoreless the rest of the way.
