CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte traveled to face Virginia Tech (5-4) in their final nonconference game of the year, falling 20-10 despite
Kayleen Favreau recording her third straight five-goal game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a pair of early goals from
Anna Bednarz, Queens held a 2-1 lead early in today's game. However, the Hokies answered, finding the back of the net two times in a row to take a 3-2 advantage with 5:17 to play. An unassisted goal from Queens'
Michela Paterson at 3:49 then sparked a 3-0 run that allowed the Royals to move ahead, 5-3, at the close of the period.
The Hokies' offense came alive in the second quarter, as they outscored the Royals 5-1 in the second to lead 8-6 at the halftime break.
Virginia Tech's two-point lead remained at the end of the third after both teams scored three goals in the period, but the Hokies really put the game away in the fourth, opening the final quarter with five unanswered goals to increase the margin to seven, 16-9. Favreau ended Queens' scoring drought with a goal at 3:29, but her goal was the final of the day for the Royals as the Hokies scored four more goals before the end of regulation.

- Senior Attacker Kaylen Favreau totaled six points on five goals and one assist.

- Queens was outshot 39-26 by the Hokies, putting 20 shots on goal compared to Virginia Tech's 31.
- The Royals lost the battle at the draw, 18-12, and totaled 16 ground balls to Virginia Tech's 17.
