THE SHORT STORY
Looking to even the weekend series with the visiting Army Black Knights, the Queens University of Charlotte baseball team dropped another tough 4-3 battle at The Stick on Saturday afternoon. Despite the loss,
Bradley Brown provided another offensive spark with a 2-for-4 afternoon, including a triple and three RBI.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Queens struck first in the bottom of the first inning, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead on two hits. Leadoff hitter
Thomas Mathay doubled down the right field line to get in scoring position before
Bradley Brown singled through the right side to bring Mathay home for an RBI. Army answered right back with a leadoff homerun to right center by Josiah Overb to tie it up one apiece.
-Army regained the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring one run on one hit. David Dubrul reached on a Queens error, and Josiah Overb followed it with an RBI single to left field to bring in Dubrul.
-After being held in check through the fifth and sixth innings, the Black Knights got another run on two hits. Jack Quinlan sent a one-out single through the left side before Queens picked up the second out on an infield popup. Carter Hewit worked an eight-pitch walk to advance Quinlan into scoring position, and John McKillo capitalized with an RBI single to extend the Army lead to 3-1.
-The Black Knights added a key insurance run at the top of the eighth inning when David Dubrul laced an RBI double down the right field line. The insurance run proved critical as Queens responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Dylan Schaefer led off the inning with an infield single before
Thomas Mathay reached on a fielding error. With two runners on and no outs,
Bradley Brown stepped in and roped a two-run triple to right-center to cut the deficit to 4-3.
-Down to their final three outs and chasing one run, Queens put the tying run on first with one out, but a fly out and a fielder's choice ended the game as the Black Knights held onto the 4-3 victory.
