THE SHORT STORY
The Queens University of Charlotte softball team dropped an 8-4 decision to UNC Greensboro Tuesday evening after the Spartans used a five-run fourth inning to take control.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings as Kooper Barnes and UNCG's Rhyann Jones kept the offenses in check early.

UNC Greensboro broke through in the fourth, capitalizing on a pair of hit batters and a Queens error. An RBI single opened the scoring before a two-RBI single to center stretched the lead. A hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded and an RBI walk capped a five-run frame, giving the Spartans a 5-0 advantage.

Queens responded in the bottom half of the inning. Olivia Thornton drew a leadoff walk and stole second before Lindsay Henson launched a two-run home run to center field, trimming the deficit to 5-2.

The Spartans added an unearned run in the sixth following a throwing error, making it 6-2. In the seventh, UNCG tacked on two more runs on a two-RBI single to extend the margin to 8-2.

The Royals mounted a late rally in the bottom of the seventh. Kami Diaz singled to lead off the frame, and pinch hitter Aloni Hogans followed with a base hit.

Sage Farmer drove in a run with a single to third, and a wild pitch brought home another to cut the deficit to 8-4, but Queens could not complete the comeback.

Queens finished with five hits in the contest, with Farmer leading the way with two.
