THE SHORT STORY
The Queens University of Charlotte softball team fell to NC State, 10-0, in five innings Tuesday evening after the Wolfpack used a big second inning and three home runs to pull away.
HOW IT HAPPENED
NC State struck first in the opening frame with an RBI single to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Wolfpack broke the game open in the second inning, plating four runs. An RBI single extended the advantage before a three-run home run to deep center made it 5-0.
NC State added two more in the third on a two-run home run to left, pushing the margin to 7-0.
In the fourth, the Wolfpack continued to apply pressure. An RBI double down the left field line added another run before a throwing error allowed a runner to score. A solo home run later in the inning capped the scoring at 10-0.
Queens recorded four hits in the contest, highlighted by a three-hit performance from Sage Farmer. Quinn Thompson added a single for the Royals' other hit.
IN THE CIRCLE
Addison Kluck took the loss after throwing 4.0 innings. She allowed seven hits and 10 runs (nine earned) while striking out one.
ROYALS LEADERS
Farmer finished 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the offense. Thompson went 1-for-2, and Lindsay Henson drew a walk.
Defensively, the Royals turned five groundouts and recorded 12 putouts.
