CHARLOTTE, N.C. — From the month of January, Queens Athletics is proud to recognize Haley Ross of women's swimming and Yoav Berman of men's basketball as the FieldTurf Royals of the Month, honoring their standout performances and impact for the Royals during the month.
Haley Ross – Women's Swimming
Haley Ross delivered a dominant January in the pool, highlighted by earning ASUN Swimmer of the Week honors after a standout performance against Gardner-Webb. Ross helped power Queens to a decisive 182.5–70.5 conference dual meet victory, sweeping both backstroke events to control the momentum from start to finish.
She opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke, touching in 55.58 to give the Royals an early edge. Ross later added a season-best 1:57.18 in the 200 backstroke to complete the sweep and secure her second individual title of the day. Her pair of victories marked one of the top individual performances in the ASUN during the month and played a key role in Queens' continued success this season.
Yoav Berman – Men's Basketball
Yoav Berman earns January Royals of the Month recognition after leading Queens to a 7–3 record during the month, including a Division I-best seven-game winning streak. The guard averaged 13.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while serving as a steady and versatile presence on both ends of the floor.
Berman reached double figures in nine of the team's 10 games in January and recorded a career-high eight assists at Bellarmine and has been instrumental in one of the program's strongest stretches of the season.
ROYALS SERVICE AWARD
Queens Athletics is proud to recognize Women's Lacrosse and Women's Rugby as the Royal Service Award recipients for the month, honoring their outstanding commitment to community engagement and service.
Women's Lacrosse: Women's Lacrosse earned the monthly honor after posting a team-leading 70 Team Impact Score. The Royals recorded 70 total service hours across 26 community commitments during the month, generating an estimated $2,435.30 in economic impact. With 23 of 37 student-athletes participating (62 percent), the program demonstrated a strong, collective dedication to giving back and representing Queens Athletics in the Charlotte community.
Women's Rugby: Women's Rugby also delivered an impressive month of service, finishing with a Team Impact Score of 57. The squad accumulated 57 validated service hours while attending 32 community commitments, producing an estimated $2,003.32 in economic impact. With 17 of 34 team members participating, the Royals continued to build a culture of service and engagement beyond competition.
Both programs exemplified Queens' commitment to servant leadership, making a meaningful difference on campus and throughout the local community during the month of January.
ABOUT ROYALS OF THE MONTH
"Royals of the Month" honors are awards given to outstanding male and female student-athletes who have demonstrated exceptional performance and contribution to their sport. These awards are voted on by athletic administration.
ABOUT THE ROYALS SERVICE AWARD
In the past, Queens Athletics has presented an annual Royal Service Award to individual student-athletes or teams who have gone above and beyond to help improve the Queens community. Criteria for this award include acts of community engagement that are purposeful, progressive, deliberate, intentional, and impactful to the Queens campus and the greater community.
Honoring Queens student-athletes with a monthly award in addition to the annual award will strengthen the support of the University's motto, "Not to be served, but to serve."
