JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior guard
Nasir Mann has been named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, as officially announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Mann turned in another dominant week, leading the Royals to a 2-0 week with victories over FGCU and Stetson.
"Nas has been playing at an elite level all year," said Queens head coach
Grant Leonard. "This is well deserved for Nas. More than any year, this is an individual award that will be celebrated by our entire team because we all achieved it together."
The Gainesville, Florida, native averaged 14.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.0 steals over the two games. Against the Eagles, Mann packed the stat sheet with eight points, five rebounds, and four assists despite only playing 21 minutes due to foul trouble. In the weekend cap, the guard turned in his second double-double of the season, and third of his career, with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding six assists.
In the victory over Stetson, the athletic veteran slammed home a pair of dunks, including one that was featured at No. 7 on ESPN SportsCenter Top 10. The recognition on ESPN was Mann's second feature on the segment over the last two years, and the Royals third time landing on SportsCenter this season.
On the year, Mann has led the Royals with a team-high 14.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while also adding 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Mann ranks top 15 in the ASUN in scoring (13), rebounding (7), assists (12), field goal percentage (3), and free throw percentage (13).
Queens is off to a hot start in ASUN play, posting a 6-0 record to sit atop the league standings. The perfect record in conference play marks the best start in league play since joining the ASUN in 2022. The Royals are 1-of-3 programs in the state of North Carolina to remain unbeaten in conference play (Duke, UNCW).
The Royals are back inside Curry Arena on Wednesday, January 21
st, as they host North Alabama, a program that is coming off an ASUN Championship appearance last season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and WCCB Charlotte. Fans can purchase their tickets in advance
