CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team will make their home debut this weekend, hosting Campbell, UNC Asheville, and The Citadel in the Queens Fall Classic at Curry Arena.
Queens will open Fall Classic tournament play on Friday, September 12, with a 10 a.m. matchup against the Citadel before returning to the court at 7:30 PM to face UNC Asheville. The Royals will wrap up their first homestand of the season on Saturday, September 13, squaring off with UNC Asheville at 1:30 PM.
"Playing at home [this weekend] will be a great experience to showcase all of the hard work we've been putting in," Matt Stolz said. "We are excited to have the Queens fan base support this team."
LAST TIME OUT
Queens closed the weekend at the GSU Invitational on a high note, earning a 3-1 win over Florida A&M to finish the tournament 2-1 and continue the best Division I start in program history. The Royals put together one of their most balanced performances of the young season, producing 61 kills at a .225 hitting percentage while adding 10 service aces and nine total blocks. Callie DeSchryver led the attack with a match-high 16 kills on a .438 clip.
The win capped a tournament that began with a 3-1 victory over Georgia State, a result that set a new standard for Queens with its best start to a Division I campaign. In that match, the Royals hit .314 in the opening set and finished with a .240 hitting percentage and 48 kills, while Norris was nearly flawless with 13 kills on 24 swings without an error. With two wins across the three matches, Queens improved to 5-2 overall.
