The Short Story:
Despite taking a 5-1 lead into the top of the ninth inning, the Queens University of Charlotte baseball team dropped their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 7-5. The Wolves used a big six run ninth inning to storm from behind and take the series rubber match. Landry Jurecka and Tyler Peters shined on the day as Jurecka tossed 8.0 innings and allowed one run on seven hits while striking out five Wolves. Peters led the Royals offense with a three-hit day

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Queens jumped on the Wolves in the bottom of the first inning with two runs on two hits. Jake Barbour got the rally started with a one-out single to right field before swiping second. Logan Schmitt worked a walk and Queens converted a double steal to put a pair in scoring position. Nick Alderfer stepped in and fouled out down the third base line, but Barbour managed to beat the throw to the plate to put the Royals on the board first. Senior Will Budnick stepped in and laced the second pitch of the at-bat into left center for an RBI single.
-In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Royals hung a three-spot on the Wolves behind two hits and a West Georgia error. Nick Alderfer got the inning started with a single to left field before Will Budnick was hit by a pitch. The Wolves turned to their bullpen and the Royals turned to small ball as Anibal Rivera dropped down a bunt. The new arm for the Wolves airmailed the throw to first base bringing home Alderfer. Tyler Peters stepped in and struck a 1-2 pitch up the middle to bring home a pair and extend the Royals lead to 5-0.
-After being held scoreless for seven innings, the Wolves broke through in the eighth when Jack Witmer sent an RBI single through the right side. Jurecka stayed poised and picked up an inning ending double play to limit the damage.
-In the top of the ninth inning, West Georgia erupted for six runs on two hits and a Queens error. The inning was highlighted by a grand slam from Cooper Prince to send the Wolves ahead 7-5.
-Down to their final three outs, Queens applied pressure and got the winning run to the plate. With runners on first and second and two outs, the Wolves worked a pop up to secure the series win.
