Royals Shine in the Classroom with Historic Spring Semester

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the 14th consecutive season, Queens University of Charlotte student-athletes have continued their success in the classroom as the department recorded above a 3.0 grade point average. The Royals matched their record-breaking performance from a year ago with a 3.45 GPA in the 2024-2025 academic year. This spring, Queens student-athletes turned in a 3.46 GPA, the highest GPA in a single semester since the transition to Division 1.

"The Queens student-athletes are doing amazing work inside and outside the classroom," Queens Director of Athletics Cherie Swarthout stated. "A new program record for the spring semester while also matching our 3.45 GPA from the 2023-24 season, which was also a department record, is simply incredible. The Royals continue to make me proud, and I can't thank our athletic academic success team enough for their hard work this season. Tiffany Britten's team, along with our head coaches, have continued to carry out an intentional strategy that puts academic and athletic success together at the forefront of who we are, and I'm excited to see where we go from here as we wrap up year three of the DI reclassification process."

In total, 413 student-athletes held a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher and were named to the Royals Athletic Directors Honor Roll. Additionally, 346 student-athletes achieved the Athletic Gold Standard for earning a 3.7 GPA or higher for the academic year. The Athletic Royal Society is exclusive to the Royals who recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA, and 65 student-athletes achieved that recognition this year. Queens Athletics saw 118 Royals receive their degrees this spring at Commencement.

Across all teams, the Queens Women's Swimming program turned in the highest GPA with a 3.76 mark. The women's golf and women's cross country programs followed closely behind with impressive 3.75 GPAs. On the men's side, the men's tennis program recorded the highest GPA for the third straight year with a 3.69 mark, while men's soccer was closely behind with a 3.59 GPA. The men's track and field team saw the best improvement of the year and finished with a 3.20 GPA.

Individually, Queens men's basketball standout Leo Colimerio was named to the D1-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team after turning in a 4.0 GPA and leading the Royals to their first 20-win season in Division 1 program history. Colimerio was one of 23 Division 1 basketball players on the men's and women's side to be named a recipient. Across the ASUN, the Royals were highly successful with eight student-athletes earning ASUN All-Academic praise.

Queens competed at a high level this past year, with 15 programs making a postseason appearance. The Royals men's basketball program made its third straight trip to the ASUN Tournament and its first appearance in the 2025 College Basketball Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida. Queens men's swimming captured the first ASUN Championship in school history with an impressive week at the ASUN Swimming and Diving Championships. The NCAA women's triathlon program maintained its dominance, placing third at the D1 Triathlon National Championships in Clermont, Florida. The Royals men's and women's club triathlon teams continued their reign, capturing their fifth straight USAT Collegiate Club National Championship. Queens men's rugby made an appearance in the 2024 NCR National Championship in Houston, Texas.
