Cherie Swarthout Named 2025 WFAE EQUALibrium Award Winner

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte Director of Athletics Cherie Swarthout has been named one of 25 winners of the 2025 EQUALibrium Award, WFAE announced on May 2.

The awards recognize Charlotte-area residents and organizations that have made outstanding contributions in advancing issues of equity within the community. More than 70 nominations were received across seven categories.

Swarthout, along with other winners and nominees, will be honored with the award as an established leader in the sports category at WFAE's second annual EQUALibrium Awards Gala on June 5. The event will highlight the stories and achievements of these remarkable individuals who have devoted themselves to fostering inclusivity, dismantling systemic barriers, and promoting equity and equality in our region.

Earning the award as an emerging leader in the sport category is Ericia Turner, executive director of athletics for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools while Stonewall Sports Charlotte is the organization/business earning the recognition in the category. For a full list of honorees, click here.

The EQUALibrium Awards Gala is a fundraising event. A portion of each ticket purchased is tax-deductible as allowed by law.
