THE SHORT STORY:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In a tight ASUN battle on Friday afternoon, Queens (N.C.) earned the doubles point but fell just short overall, dropping a 4-3 decision to visiting Lipscomb. The Royals notched a pair of straight-set singles wins, only to see the Bisons surge back and clinch the match in a decisive third set on court three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lipscomb struck first in doubles, capturing the No. 3 court, 6-1. Queens responded with two 6-3 victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to secure the doubles point.
- In singles,
Gavin Ryan grabbed early momentum for the Royals with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 victory on court four, while
Luke Coppage earned another point for Queens at No. 6, winning 6-4, 6-4.
- At the top position,
Laurenz Blickwede played a clean match to prevail 6-3, 6-4.
- Lipscomb battled back on courts two, three, and five, clinching the overall victory with a pair of three-set triumphs. The decisive match came at No. 3, where the Bisons rallied past
Jan Montero Diaz, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
