THE SHORT STORY:Â
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University women's tennis team put up a strong effort but fell 6-1 to reigning Big South champion UNC Asheville on Saturday at the Howard Levine Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bulldogs secured the doubles point after a 6-2 win at No. 2 and a forfeit at No. 3. However, Queens responded at No. 1 doubles, where
Lucy Hogan and
Andreea Onitoiu battled to a 7-6 (7-4) victory over Angelina Joy Hug and Ari Siegel
- UNC Asheville extended its lead as Queens was forced to forfeit at No. 6 singles, making the score 2-0. The Bulldogs then rolled through the middle of the lineup, earning a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4, followed by a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 to push the match out of reach.

Lucy Hogan provided a highlight for the Royals at No. 1 singles, rallying from a set down to defeat Alexis Nyborg 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) and put Queens on the board.
- UNC Asheville then closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 before finishing the day with a hard-fought win at No. 2, where Hug edged Onitoiu 6-3, 7-6 (7-0).
NEXT UP
Up next, the Royals open ASUN Conference play on Friday, March 14, against North Florida in Jacksonville. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m.at 2 p.m. at the Howard Levine Tennis Center.
