Royals Fall Late in Game with Furman

nGREENVILLE, S.C. –The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team closed its nonconference slate this afternoon with a record of 3-7 after falling late to the Furman Paladins (6-2) by a score of 13-12.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0 in the opening quarter, Queens put together a 5-0 run to lead 5-2 with 10:37 to play in the second. The Royals then outscored the Paladins 3-1 to head into the halftime break in front 8-3.
 
Furman began their climb back into the game in the third, putting four points on the board compared to Queens' one to close the margin to two, 9-7, heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
 
A goal from Isabella Swanson increased the Royals' lead back to three, 10-7, early in the fourth, but the Paladins answered with back-to-back scores to pull within one, 10-9. Queens had a response and scored a pair of goals to pull ahead by three again, 12-9, but Furman would get hot in the final five minutes of action, scoring four consecutive goals to take today's win.
 
KEY STATS & NOTES 
  • Lily Greenwell, Jordan Tandler, Kayleen Favreau, Anna Bednarz, and Isabella Swanson scored two goals each.
  • Favreau also led in caused turnovers, with three. She recorded three draw controls and three ground balls.
  • Sofija Buzelis and Anna Roser scored five goals each for Furman. Buzelis scored the game-winner with 22 seconds left in regulation.
  • Queens recorded 14 shots on goal compared to Furman's 18.
  • The Paladins won the battle at the draw, 18-11, and the battle for ground balls, 17-14.
